#9  – Improve Email Results with 3 More Basic Tips

Following up on my previous post about boosting email response rate, here are 3 more tips for better email marketing.

  1. Handle Unsubscribes Gracefully – Offer a one click way for users to unsubscribe from your email.  If you don’t, they may just mark you as spam or junk email, a potentially dangerous blow to your email reputation among ISPs.
  2. Learn From Your Mistakes – Include an open-ended field after people unsubscribe to give them a way to let you know why they unsubscribed.  Read them and improve your email.
  3. Offer Opt-Out With Options – Present users who have unsubscribed with a screen that offers ways to subscribe again on better terms — more focused topics, less frequency, a different format, etc.
