Every year, I go back to Villanova University to give a presentaiton at the same class I taught. This year, I gave a web analytics presentation titled “Web Analytics 101″. It’s an extremely basic introduction to web analytics with a heavy emphasis on how to break into the industry. The presentation is available on this page after the “read more…” link (to keep load time down) and on Slideshare.
I recommend a few web analytics websites and resources in the tool, which I’ll list here too :-)
- Books
- Web Analytics: An Hour a Day
- Website Measurement Hacks
- The Big Book of KPIs
- Web Analytics: An Hour a Day
- Starting a Web Analytics Blog
- Web Analytics Community
- Networking with Web Analysts

- Vendors like Omniture and WebTrends

Great post with a good list of links.
I’d like to address another dimension of web analytics career advice – what field are you going to be using the data on?

I’m glad you liked the post, Ophir. I’m not sure that I understand your question.
Hi Alex,
As web analytics is a means to an ends, people should consider what the end goal is going to be. In other words, what field/niche are they trying to improve with the insights they get from web analytics. For example:
- Website Conversion Rate Optimization
- Paid Search
- Search Engine Optimization
- Social Media
- Email Marketing
- Online to Offline Marketing
My blog posting elaborates on the subject.
